ASC teachin’ on the beach again at the Tortuga Music Festival 2015

We are gonna be hanging out on the beach again this year at Rock the Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival in Ft. Lauderdale this Saturday and Sunday (April 11th and 12th)!!! The event hosts some of the biggest names in the music industry, i.e. Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, and the Doobie Brothers to name a few. AND the Festival supports conservation (see, it can be done!). There are over 40 marine conservation organizations in the Village this year and we are stoked to be one of them!

We have collaborated with the Bimini Biological Field Station for the past 3 years in creating hands-on, interactive and educational components for a booth at the concert’s Conservation Village, teaching tens of thousands of attendees how important shark research is to marine conservation.

The concert organizers work really hard to minimize the impact such an event has on our local beaches by hiring a crew of trash collectors, minimizing anything that could be turned into litter and facilitating recycling.

“The mission of this event from day one has been to call attention to the issues that are killing our oceans,” says Rock The Ocean founder Chris Stacey. “My goal is to leverage the star power and media clout of these amazing musicians on behalf of the sea turtles, sharks and our oceans in general. We want people to come out and have a great time and of course enjoy the music, but leave with a higher awareness of how serious these problems are and the understanding that every attendee can make a difference."

We will be live tweeting the event on our Twitter account @SharkStudies and check our Facebook page www.facebook/AmericanSharkConservancy for descriptions of our activities!
